Subject: Magnetic Billiards: Seriously Casual
This is the finished Billiards Hall doorway graphic for the intro to Magnetic Billiards, following up from the initial pen drawing I posted yesterday.
I managed to rotate the drawing in Photoshop so it was straight, then cut out the ornate carved archway and door, and flipped it. Using the little markers I left I successfully lined this up over the top of the original drawing, and hoped that the non-flipped details (the sign above the door and the letterbox) would distract from the obvious flip. The colouring was slightly different on each side too.
Just about the only detail I invented was the carved Billiards Hall sign. The actual sign had similar (but more ornate) carving of the name of the pub, The Buck and Hound (matching the carved image above), but I changed this partly to match the story's intro a bit better, and partly because the carved words were too ornate and detailed to be readable at the size / resolution I would be displaying the image on the screen.
I kept the Buck and Hound name on some other material for the intro, and I added the 'Magnetic' banner as a last minute touch, as it tied in with the back-story.
Basically, the story is that our great-great-grandfather invented the game, and actually built a magnetic, electrical billiards table that behaves exactly like the video game we're making. He unveiled his ill-fated contraption one night at this very location in Stockport, but it all went horribly wrong...
We've uncovered his original blueprints and have made a simulation of his invention in the form of the Magnetic Billiards video game.

Looks great. I think the "obvious" flip is actually quite charming. :)
