I got a lovely email this morning, from Jan Jakubovic, telling me that he admired the graphics in our old 8-bit computer game Feud, and that he's been inspired to make a screensaver called Mad Wizards based around them.
It's really nice getting 'fan' mail like this, especially on a Monday morning when you're trying to get your brain into work mode. Knowing that someone out there appreciates your work makes a big difference when you're not actually making much money from it.
I'm constantly amazed how many people still have fond memories of games we made decades ago. I guess one of the advantages of maintaining a website referencing all our old games is that people can still get in touch with us easily.
I get quite a few emails from people asking if we mind if they do a re-make or an unofficial conversion of one of our old games (there's a great Zub remake out there, and only last week someone asked about doing a Feud remake on iOS). We don't actually own any of the rights in those old games, so we couldn't object even if we wanted to, but I'm usually more flattered and embarrassed than anything, and happy to give my blessing for what it's worth, although quite a few times I've suggested that if someone was prepared to put in all the work required to make a finished video game, they'd be better off making their own original game rather than a clone of an existing one.
Anyway, check out the link to the screensaver - it's really nice.
