New popups!

Subject: Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint

We're in the final stages of preparing our first big update to Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint for iOS, and as well as adding lots of new features and content, we thought we'd try and give a little 'spring clean' to some of the graphics in there.

The popups were actually quite a last minute addition to the game. At first we had a character from the PC Magnetic Billiards popping up, but we decided it he didn't fit the style of the game, and we wanted to save him for a future release. Then we realised that we could actually put ourselves in there, to tie in with the animated versions of ourselves we had at the end of each table. This clicked with a few other ideas about presenting our games as 'home made', and also we'd recently been talking a lot about putting developers in a central role in the presentation of games, rather than faceless studios.

I didn't have time to actually draw new graphics at that point though (we were close to submitting to Apple, and I had a ton of other work to do), so I dug out some experimental avatar face graphics of John and I that I'd drawn for Naked War years earlier. They worked, job done. But, that wasn't actually what we looked like any more. We'd both either grown or cut our hair, and sort of stretched a bit in the, erm, horizontal, as you do when you get older...

So, yesterday I redrew the popup graphics of John and I, that you see between games (if you haven't switched us off!). These now reflect what we actually look like!

Well there you go, clearly video game developers age much quicker than regular folk over just a couple of months. ;-P
