Subject: Plok comic strip
Last year we published a book. Well, a comic, if that counts. Volume 1 of our ongoing weekly webcomic, based on our character Plok from the SNES game of the same name.
Ok, that's no big deal - anyone can self publish these days - and I used to make and publish my own fanzines when I was younger, so it's not exactly new to me.
But making a proper book, one that you can buy from Amazon, and one that's a proper printed book as well as an eBook, feels really special. Somehow more legitimate than making and publishing a video game.
It was really cool to see the photos sent by our readers of them with the book in their hand, or better still, with their kids reading it. I've done a collage of a few of them above.
We haven't sold very many, and it would be lovely to sell a few more, but we're both really proud of it. We just planned to make an eBook, and it was only at the last minute we added the option of a print version, but the print version is responsible for about 90% of the sales, so that was a good move.
Volume 2 is almost complete, and should be published later this month. The actual comic strips for Volume 3 should be finished in about six weeks, and once I've done the cover and extra content, that means the third book in the series should be out later this year as well.
Having a series of books out, that will feel pretty good.
And if you haven't bought it yet, put a smile on my face for World Book Day, and buy Plok Volume 1 today!
