Chapter 3 Final (Deg Illustrations)

This is the finished illustration. The face is from one of my old photographs of a friend from 1989 or 1990.

One other element I tried to put into the illustration, which might not be obvious, is the radioactivity symbol. I wanted the background to be drawn over the symbol, either white on black, or black on white, depending on whether the lines were inside or outside the symbol shape. This kind of works, but isn’t immediately obvious as the circle in the centre of the symbol is hidden by the face.

The ghostly tentacles rising about the Cathedral in the upper left of the image were one of the only things I just inked freehand, with no pencil or reference. I just whacked them in, and the cat faces, in about 5 minutes at the end. It felt like cheating to wing it like that.
