Chapter 9 pencils (Deg Illustrations)

By this stage in the project I’d planned out everything that was going to appear in the remaining four illustrations, after making copious notes on each chapter, and so I knew that this was the last of the ‘easy’ ones - the last one without a massive amount of detail to draw. So, I cracked on with this one next to give myself another tick off the todo list and to feel like I was closer to the finish line. I was flagging a bit by now.

This illustration probably used the least amount of reference. I think just the garden gnomes and the human torso at the bottom right, and the missiles. The rest of the background was made up, and although there wasn’t that much detail to draw, those smoke trails ended up taking ages, so it wasn’t such an easy illustration after all.
