An isometric action / puzzle game set on an artificial island, casting the player as a secret agent trying to infiltrate the enemy base with his trusty motorbike / handglider combo.
The starting point for this was another 'high concept' dictated by Quicksilva. This time they wanted a hang gliding simulator, probably because they thought it hadn't been done before. I don't think any of the team relished the thought of writing a 3D flight simulator in the incredibly short development period allowed, so John came up with something less like a simulator, and more of a straight video game.
Development times were shooting through the roof at this point, much to the management and publisher's consternation, and somewhere between 12 and 16 weeks was scheduled for this game, although it probably took a few weeks longer.
It seems that the game was later re-released on the Bug-Byte label, although nobody bothered to tell us.

I was still at school when John started work on Glider Rider, but after doing little bits for Deathwake and Max Headroom,
I was almost an unofficial (and unpaid) part of the development team. I did a nice font (16x16 pixels - luxury!) and iffy loading screen for the game, but my main contribution was to the map design.
John wrote an editor on the Spectrum to construct the island with, and as I recall we split map designing duties between us; John doing the grassy section outside of the base, where most of the action takes place, and me building the base on the other side of the fence. I think there is an 'S' and a 'J' marked on hillsides; our signatures, just like Slartyblartfast in Hitchhiker's Guide.
Of course we couldn't have built the maps without Pete's brilliant graphics, which as anyone who's worked on an isometric game will tell you, can be nightmarishly difficult to get right, especially if the tiles have to join together like in this game.
† Sales Estimates
Almost all sales estimates given are educated guesses. Being lowly developers we rarely had access to the publisher's sales infomation, and in many cases hadno contact with the publisher whatsoever after each game was completed. Even in cases where we were the owners of the development studio and on royalty deals, for various reasonsit was very rare that we received accurate sales figures from the publishers involved. We'd be delighted to correct any errors, or hear more accurate sales figures for any of the titles here. Please email the webmaster if you know something we don't!
‡ Downloads
We don't condone video game piracy. We would prefer that all our games were still available for purchase by those who wanted them, but unfortunately most of our games are not commercially available in any form, with the IP or code in the hands of defunct commercialentities with neither the will nor the ability to commercially exploit these products, if not forgotten about completely. In such cases we're happy for the game to be madeavailable free for enthusiasts to download, rather than being consigned to the dustbin of history. If you would like us to remove a link, please email the webmaster to explain why.
Credits
The credits listed are accurate to the best of our recollection, but if we've made any errors or ommissions (quite likely!) please email the webmaster to let us know and we'll try to make a correction as soon as possible.
